Hi, Scott Harrell here.

I am the founder of CompassPoint Investigations and have been in the bail recovery and private investigation professions for over 17 years.  Some call me a bounty hunter, bail enforcement agent, fugitive recovery investigator, PI… whatever.  I’ve never been one for titles – just doing a damn good job through professionalism, respect and the highest of ethics.

To quickly and properly prepare my own staff of brand new fugitive recovery investigators, I developed a complete training manual, which I later titled, “Apprehending Bail Fugitives.”  It contained essentially every scrap of information I learned, collected, stole or had otherwise obtained after 9 successful years of hunting fugitives.  This manual remained a confidential and proprietary resource for my employees and continued to be refined and updated with every new experience or development in the bail recovery industry that any of us came across. It remains a living document, meaning that it will continue to evolve as the profession grows and evolves.

Before I knew it, by 2001 I had documented several hundred fugitive apprehensions without incident and was being quoted by some of the brightest and most successful recovery agents of the day as the single most important source for their success.  I have been the “point man” for Reuters and the Associated Press news services when they needed a resource on bail enforcement, I’ve been on radio and television both here and in Europe and I have consulted with producers of various reality television programs.  I doubt there is a question that I haven’t answered or a problem that I haven’t tackled related to this profession and I pride myself on this reputation. I have been blessed, at times I’ve just been lucky and I have also worked very, very hard to get where I am today.

In response to the hundred or so “How do I become a Bounty Hunter?” emails I was getting get each week through my company website (and to be able to focus on my own fugitive assignments) I published this operations manual as an online bounty hunting course in 2001 and offered it for sale to others outside of my own company.  To my shock, it met instant and resounding success.

I honestly wasn’t prepared for what happened since I chose to offer this training course online on my own rather than to publish an actual bail enforcement manual to sell through companies like Amazon or the large retail booksellers.  I began getting more and more letters from excited students describing their successes in starting their own fugitive recovery agencies.

My name and course title started showing up on the Internet chat rooms and message boards from training clients of mine who expressed that they had stopped trying to reinvent the wheel and were able to overcome the difficulties they had faced; they started making things happen for themselves and achieving their own goals of becoming a bounty hunter.  They just needed guidance.  I watched in awe and was satisfied that I was making a difference.

Today, ten years later, I am proud to say that I have well over 1,700 fugitive apprehensions and bail exonerations under my belt and have used this wealth of experience to personally launch the careers of dozens upon dozens of fine bail fugitive recovery agents by giving them the information and tools they needed to be successful. Becoming a bounty hunter isn’t rocket science but you will need a plan, you will need a starting point and you will need a resource to fall back on when you have questions.
